5 Secrets to Optimizing Your Instagram Profile to Boost Discoverability

Did you know that Instagram isn't just a social platform, but a powerful search engine?

Surprise, it’s true! Just like Google, Pinterest, and YouTube - Instagram has multiple algorithms that work as search engines and scan your profile and content for keywords so that it gets shown to the right audience.

This is why it is so important to optimize your Instagram profile with keywords that can boost your discoverability and put your content in front of more people.

Not only do you want your profile to attract the right people, you also want them to hit follow and stay around.

Follow these 5 steps to elevate your Instagram profile today.

Here’s a look at my profile that you can reference while going through the following steps.

1. Add
Keywords to Your Name & Bio

Your name field and username are the 2 key places that are searchable so it’s important to be strategic.

@username - this can be your name or brand name

Name Field within your profile - I would suggest adding your name & an industry-specific keyword like Realtor, Mortgage Advisor, etc.

2. Crafting a Compelling Profile

Your Instagram profile is essentially your elevator pitch, a fast way to let people know what you do & who you serve.

Make a great first impression by using a clear profile picture and an easy-to-read bio.

3. Bio Brilliance: Clear, Concise, and Compelling

Write a bio that not only resonates with your audience but also signals Instagram's understanding of your content.

Here’s some advice when it comes to creating your bio: choose clarity over cleverness and do not use jargon in your bio.

The key is for your bio to be clear enough that the reader knows what you do and who you help.

Don’t forget to add a call-to-action to lead your followers off of Instagram by adding a link. Some examples are email lists, freebies, service pages, etc.

4. Instagram Story Highlights: Your Virtual Web Pages

Create a seamless, web page-like experience for your audience.

Instagram highlights are collections of Instagram stories. The collections can be used strategically to allow followers to learn more about you and different pieces of your business.

Some examples of highlights are: About Me, (topic) tips, Testimonials, Behind-the-Scenes, and Favorite things, you can also throw in some fun categories that are related to your hobbies, family, etc.

5. Content Grid Clarity: Create a Scannable Grid

While you don’t need to use a checkerboard pattern or complete uniformed photos, your profile needs to be inviting and easy on the eyes.
